So we won a ribbon at the Stratford Pumpkin Festival last year for the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2 costumes! We were determined to win again. It all started with a pair of ruby slippers!

We had a great birthday party for Anna this weekend! It was an apple theme and she wore her little apple skirt I made her. We had beautiful weather and she clapped when we sang to her! I can't believe she's 1 already...time flies!

We took our annual trip to Newport, RI yesterday! It was absolutely beautiful there.
Nicholas flew his kite and we had a picnic by the ocean! We also stopped for fried seafood on the way home!

Nicholas had a great 3rd birthday! He had a Lightning McQueen cake that Auntie made and had a great time playing with his friends. He love the snow cone machine we rented and his arms and belly are still stained red from them! When it was time to sing "happy birthday" he sang along for the whole thing!

We had a great day yesterday at the "Day Out with Thomas". We rode Thomas the train and Nicholas went on some rides. He had a great time but he is still talking about how he was afraid of Sir Toppam Hat. They had the Sir Toppam Hat character to take pictures with. We really enjoyed this past weekend. Nicholas and Anna went to their first hockey game! John played after the first quarter and we all went to watch! Nicholas was a little scared of the Sound Tiger and the lights going out for awhile! Anna didn't know to be scared, but her eyes were wide the whole time! We also had great weather last weekend...to bad it didn't last! We're supposed to have snow tomorrow. Ugh! We're really, really ready for Spring!

I just wanted to update the blog with some more pictures. I have been "crafting" and made these two shirts for Nicholas. When I say made, I mean that I took a t-shirt and "dressed" it up. I didn't sew the actual shirt. I'm having a hard time getting a good picture of Nicholas. When I tell him to smile he closes his eyes.

I told myself that I would keep the bedding we used for Nicholas if I had a boy or a girl! Well...enter a really pretty quilt with Anna's name on it (thanks Grandma Lea) and I started to change my mind. I broke out the sewing machine and edged curtains and a crib skirt to match the quilt. I'm going to stop while I'm ahead! Here are some pictures of my handiwork...no one is allowed to look at it closely!!

Snow day....AGAIN!

We have had over 3 feet of snow since the day after Christmas! I really don't know where we will put the snow if we get more. The snow in the driveway is piled as tall as Joe! Looks like the Martino family needs to invest in a snowblower! Nicholas actually played outside for 2 hours yesterday while we shoveled. He was playing with his beach toys in the snow! He wanted me to turn the hose on so he could fill his watering can...I guess we're not the only ones wishing for summer right now!

Anna's Baptism

Yesterday was Anna's baptism! It was a really nice day and she was such a good girl in church. (Nicholas on the other hand needs some practice on how to behave in church.) We were so happy that Andrew came for the weekend! Elizabeth was not able to make it, but Anna wore Elizabeth's dress and Maggie's bow! Thank goodness we did the baptism this weekend...I think another week and her neck would not have fit in that dress! Here are some pictures from this special day!

Merry Christmas and snow!

We had a very Merry Christmas! Santa was very good to Nicholas and Anna. They got lots of fun new toys. Nicholas was especially excited that Santa ate the cookies we left for him and that the reindeer ate the carrot! We had a relaxing day at home and then on Sunday it snowed a lot! We had over a foot of snow. It was hard to tell exactly how much we had since it was blowing everywhere. We were afraid we were going to loose power and the wreaths on the front of the house were blowing around in circles! We have since shoveled out though! Here are some pictures!

Anna is 2 months old! I can't believe how fast the past few months have gone and how big she is already! She's actually 10 weeks today but we just had her 2 month check up last Friday. She is 10 lbs. 14 oz. and 23.5 inches! So big!

We had a wonderful Hallween weekend! Nicholas and Joe carved a pumpkin. This was our 2nd pumpkin...the squirrels ate the first one we bought. Nicholas, John, and Paul all went trick-or-treating in our neighborhood and had a great time. Their costumes were a hit thanks to Gina! Anna wore her Hallween dress and stayed home with Papa to hand out candy! Nicholas liked the candy but I'm happy to report that he forgot about it. He didn't ask for it once today! I was worried he was going to want it all day long!

I already feel behind posting pictures of Anna. We're taking them...I just haven't had the time to put them online. I now know why the 2nd child doesn't have as many pictures as the first. Nicholas and Joe went to a pancake breakfast at the firehouse this morning! They had a great time "driving" the firetruck and ate lots of pancakes and sausage! He got his own hat and badge!

Lyman Orchards

We had a great day on Thursday with John at the apple orchard. We actually ended up picking peaches and raspberries too since most of the apples weren't ready yet! The boys loved tasting the peaches and apples as we picked them. They ate a lot of fruit!

Uncle Andrew

Uncle Andrew visited us this past weekend and we had a great time! Nicholas loved having someone new to play with all day and by the time Andrew left, Nicholas thought he was living with us! We loved having Andrew visit and wish he lived closer!

Nicholas has been out of his crib and sleeping in a big bed for about 2 weeks now! He is doing great and loves it. He calls it his "boy" bed. He calls us to come get him every morning when he wakes up and hasn't realized yet that he can get out by himself. Here are some pictures!

Summer Fun!

We did some fun things around Connecticut this past week! The weather was beautiful last weekend and we took Nicholas to a farm to feed the animals. He absolutely loved it! He fed every animal right out of his hand and wasn't scared at all!

This week we also went to the Stepping Stones Museum with John, Paul, and Auntie Gina! Nicholas had a great time playing with his cousins. It was a nice indoor activity and a welcome break from the heat!

Nicholas had a wonderful 2nd birthday party with his friends and cousins! Auntie Gina made him a cookie cake that left everyone blue for days...it was very yummy!

We went to the doctor yesterday for his 2 year well visit and he's 25lbs and almost 3ft. tall! What a big boy!

Evansville

We successfully made it from Connecticut to Evansville and back again in one piece! Nicholas refused to sleep in the car for more than 45 minutes but he somehow managed to stay in a good mood for most of the trip. After 30 hours of traveling, two different hotels and sleeping in the same room as his cousin...Nicholas is definitely a trooper! We had a great time visiting with everyone and were very sad to leave.

We had a great visit with Elizabeth, Greg, and Maggie. Nicholas loved playing with Maggie. They even got to play in the snow together!

We went to New York City for the day...we are probably crazy since we picked the coldest day ever! They were troopers though and we didn't stay long. It was an adventure to say the least!

We had a wonderful Christmas this year in our new home! Santa was very good to Nicholas. He got lots of toys from Santa, Mommy and Daddy, and his aunts, uncles, and grandparents! Of course his favorite was the $3 broom from Mommy and Daddy that he carried around all morning! It took him almost 2 hours to open his presnts because he wanted to play with each thing after he opened it!

We finally got our Christmas tree inside! Nicholas actually isn't touching it as much as I thought he would. I did leave the glass ornaments in the box this year and stuck with the non-breakables and candy canes! I was also very ambitious and strung cranberries...very pretty but I think my hands are going to be stained into the new year! Here are some pictures...just for comparison!

1st surgery and a Christmas Tree!

I haven't posted in a long time. I guess we've just been so busy with the house. We had a very busy weekend. Nicholas survived his first surgery. He had eye surgery on Friday and was a very brave little boy. I think it was harder on us than it was on him. He is recovering well and we were even able to get our Christmas tree today! He goes to the doctor tomorrow for the follow-up. We're crossing our fingers that it worked. We can already see a difference in his eyes!

Here is a picture of Nicholas in his hospital PJ's and also one of our tree! It's still in the garage in a bucket of water...but at least we got it home!

Halloween in our New House!

We have had a very busy week! We officially moved from our townhouse to a "real" house with a yard, more space, and leaves to rake! We are so excited to have more room for Nicholas to move around and a yard for him to play in. We celebrated Halloween by trick-or-treating with John and Paul and meeting our new neighbors. Last weekend Nicholas and I went to Evansville. It was rather challenging to take him on the plane by myself, but we made it. He actually fell asleep sitting in my lap on the plane. (He hasn't done that since he was a newborn.) We did a lot of fun things. We went to the Fall Festival and I also walked the half marathon with my mom, sister, and sister-in-law. Nicholas got to have some bonding time with Uncle Greg, Uncle Andrew, and Maggie. Here are some pictures of our trip!

We had a wonderful time in California. It was so nice to be with everyone and relax. Nicholas and Maggie had so much fun together. Nicholas finally found the courage to start walking the day before we left and he hasn't stopped since! Elizabeth and Greg made a great video of their pictures. Nicholas has started taking a few steps here and there! He will only try to walk if we stand him in the middle of the room with nothing to hold onto. He knows it's a big deal now because he claps after he walks a little bit!

We had Nicholas' one year doctor appointment yesterday....here are his stats!

Weight: 22lbs.

Length: 32.5in.

He is in the 98% for height and 50% for weight! He is a very big boy and the doctor said he is tall and slender. He doesn't really feel slender though! He is a healthy, happy one year old!

Birthday Boy!

We can't believe that Nicholas will be 1 on Wednesday! The year just flew by and he is really a little boy now...not a baby anymore! We had a swimming party on Saturday at Papa's house. The kids had a great time playing in the kid's pools and eating! Grammy came from Indiana and we had a great visit!

Nicholas wasn't sure of the cake at first but he dug in eventually and really liked it. He still has blue frosting under his fingernails! I'd like to take credit for the cake but I can only take credit for baking it. Auntie Gina spent two nights decorating it and it turned out perfect! Paul really got into the cake and is gearing up for his birthday in November! Here are some pictures of the big day!

Memorial Day Weekend

We had a great Memorial Day weekend. We went to New Hampshire for Lauren's birthday! Nicholas had a lot of fun and got to play with Lauren and Erin. He really loved the balloons and Lauren's new tutu. He fell asleep in the backpack while we were walking on the beach. It was so cute. I think he just hit the wall of being tired and he liked the sound of the waves!

There has been so much going on the past few days that I can't even keep up with the pictures and videos of Nicholas! He is offically crawling and has really picked up the speed the last few days getting into everything! He has also been "dancing" and really into music! He got me a Ray Charles CD for Mother's Day and he really likes it! He also got his first haircut today! He did a great job. He looked at the woman with his suspicious eyes, but he didn't cry. He really liked the police car he got to sit in and since he really doesn't have much hair...it didn't take long! He even got his picture taken and they saved some hair for us to keep! We have had really beautiful weather the past few days! It's actually been hot for this time of year. We took Nicholas to the beach over the weekend. He was interested in the sand and putting his feet in it. He also loved the shovel, mostly to chew on though. Here are some pictures of our day!

Nicholas had a great first Easter. We went to church and to Auntie Gina's for brunch. We were all ready to go to church and Nicholas was sitting with his Easter basket in his linen shirt and kahki pants when I looked over and he had blood all over his pants. He must have cut his finger on the envelope to his Easter card. So we had to change clothes! That's why he's dressed in two different outfits. Overall...it was a great day!

Nicholas officially has a tooth! He has been very unhappy the past few days. This picture was taken on Valentine's Day. I thought he looked so cute in his red shirt.....he wasn't really into it though. He just sat there all day and stared. We could tell he was really in pain with that tooth. Nicholas is officially rolling from his stomach to his back. He hasn't figured out how to roll the easy way by putting his head down, but he's getting over and that's all that matters. He really likes to roll when he's in just a diaper. He has rolled a few times during the day but of course when Joe gets home, he acts like he never did it. Last night he rolled every time we put him on his stomach and we were able to get it on video.

We can't believe that Nicholas is 6 months old! The time has gone by so fast! He is doing so many new things lately. He officially sits up with out any help for long periods of time. He has also found his feet and can put them in his mouth. He only seems to like to do this when he's naked though. He has tried many new kinds of food but he really, really likes peas. I was not expecting that.

He is really into Libby and Pheobe and tries to grab them even when they aren't in reach. Libby tolerates him, but Pheobe is not into having chunks of fur ripped out. Surprise, surprise!

Nicholas had a great 1st Thanksgiving! We started feeding him rice cereal. He seems to like it when he actually gets some down! He's still learning but we're sure he'll figure it out! 4 Months Old!

Nicholas is months old! We can't believe how fast the time has gone. We went for his doctor appointment yesterday and he is a big boy! He weighed 15lbs. 14oz. and is 26 and 1/2 inches long. He's in the 93rd percentile for his height. We're not sure where that came from but we'll take it. Here are some pictures we had taken! He's very smart and already starting to read!

Welcome Paul Joseph!

We took this video of Nicholas laughing at Joe. We thought it was so funny and so cute! Nicholas is really starting to show his personality. He's laughing a lot and he has also started to grab at things like crazy...especially my hair!

Nicholas had a wonderful 1st Halloween. He dressed as a bumblebee and everyone thought he was so cute. We had a very busy day. We went to my old school to visit the teachers and the children from last year. We also went to Joe's school for the parade. After that we went to Gina and John's for dinner and we passed out the candy at their house while they took John trick-or-treating. Here are some pictures of our little bumblebee.

Nicholas' Baptism

This past weekend was very special. We had Nicholas baptized on Sunday and we also had lots of visitors. Grandpa and Grandma Elliott came all the way from Evansville. The Muldoon's also joined us from New Hampshire. Nicholas had lots of fun playing with Lauren and Erin. After the baptism we had a fun party at Gina and John's house. Everyone wanted to hold Nicholas and he was very tired after the long day.

Visit with Maggie and Aunt Elizabeth

We had a great visit with cousin Maggie and Aunt Elizabeth! We went apple picking and to the pumpkin patch. Maggie loves her new cousin and is learning how to be gentle with him! Poor Nicholas was helpless, but we're sure by Christmas he'll be able to stand up for himself!

Uncle Joe and Aunt Paula also came for a visit! We are so glad they were able to finally meet the babies!
